The San Diego Mosque Shooters' Musings From the Goon Cave
Nihilism in Word and Deed
It’s normally not worth analyzing the sub-literate manifestos of teenage mass shooters. But I’ll make an exception for the duo who murdered three at a San Diego mosque, because their views reflect a metastasizing tendency in the body politic.1 Consider this screed on “the universal enemy”:
Everyone has their own idea of who is to blame for all the wrong in the world, they will say its the government, the elite, the rich, the politicians, the 1%, the left, the right, the capitalists, the communists, the illuminati, the fags and trannies, the immigrants, and many more. All of them can be traced back to be or be caused by one group, the jews.

Call it the woke right, the retard right, JQAnon, slopulism, or whatever you will, but here is the perfect distillation—complete with typos—of the nihilism that Nick Fuentes packages with greater style. Start with the basic premise that “Everyone has their own idea of who is to blame for all the wrong in the world.” No, actually, they don’t. Many of us reject the infantile idea that any one group is responsible for all the world’s problems. This is the ur-stupidity that underlies antisemitism. The quest for a secular Satan began after the French Revolution, as conspiracy theorists enlisted Freemasons, Jesuits, Rosicrucians, and Templars to fill the demonic throne in a godless age. Ultimately, Jews won the “honor” of being blamed for every possible misfortune, primarily due to path dependency: there was a long history of Christian anti-Judaism that could be secularized for easy consumption by the mob. Even still, anti-Masonry was a driving force in world politics well into the 20th century. Adolf Eichmann, a Nazi architect of the Holocaust, was assigned to investigate the Freemasons before being “promoted” to the Jewish file. Notably, the San Diego shooters also mention the Freemasons, declaring that they “seem to be almost intertwined” with the Jews, “likely worshipping the same gods and operating similarly.” Right, or maybe the idea that any real-life group is operating in the manner of the Legion of Super-Villains is a comic-book fantasy?
Even still, for the sake of argument, let’s grant the shooters their quadruple refrain: “IT’S THE JEWS! IT’S THE JEWS! IT’S THE JEWS! IT’S THE JEWS!” If Jews are indeed to blame for, checks notes, everything, why target a mosque? According to our two geniuses, “Middle Easterners and Islam,” “blacks and nigger culture,” “South Americans [sic] invaders,” and “faggots and trannies” are all merely “bioweapons of the kikes.” So why shoot up a bunch of bioweapons instead of aiming at the arms manufacturers? Obviously, we can’t probe the minds of teenagers who were brain-dead even before they shot themselves in the head. But we can draw the broader conclusion that such a nihilistic, fatalistic, anti-rational worldview naturally lends itself to both suicide and mass violence. If you truly think that an all-powerful conspiracy dedicated to cosmic evil is running the world, then what use is practical politics, democratic debate, or even living? Your best plan of action is to launch a kamikaze attack against the proverbial aircraft carrier, and hope that you inspire enough other kamikazes to do the same. At which point… what exactly? I suppose the best-case scenario for nihilists is that society breaks down under the sheer weight of chaos, and something better can be forged from the ruins. But even a whites-only utopia wouldn’t change the reality of being short, which appears to have been one of the shooters’ main grievances.
Per the manifesto, “After the Jew the most evil creature in the world is the woman.” (Jewish women for the win!) Further: “If you’re short like me they’ll [women] never see you as human, plain and simple.” But did Jews make you short? Even the shooter doesn’t go that far. So it seems that Jews aren’t responsible for all the wrong in the world. Maybe, then, blaming the Jews for “war, famine, exploitation of children, rise in degeneracy, infighting of peoples, political killings, the separation of family, the departure from the Church, the White race’s replacement, mass immigration, central banking systems, and so on” (and so on!) is a massive cope? Maybe, in addition to genetics, the grand sweep of history, politics, finance, culture, and religion is also run independently of the Elders of Zion? Maybe it’s not “run” at all? Self-described incels like to think of themselves as clear-eyed and black-pilled, but their “ultimate enemy” is reality, not Jews or women. The reality is that “the Jew” isn’t a malevolent demiurge, but human, all too human, with all the associated complexities and foibles. So are their “bioweapons,” and so is “the woman,” who is, in fact, many women, just as there are many Jews with varied and contradictory views and values. To acknowledge reality would require reading, questioning, understanding, and growing. How much easier to wallow in self-pity and go out in a spasm of useless violence.
Naturally, the two young kamikazes donned Nazi insignias when they went on their killing spree. Ironically, one of their Muslim victims—praised as a hero for confronting the gunmen—had himself commented positively on a Facebook post citing Hitler. Nihilism isn’t limited to a specific demographic. Indeed, one of the shooters was himself half Mexican. Nor does it require Jewish villains and eventual victims, though the Venn diagram between nihilism and antisemitism resembles an eclipse. (Or perhaps a black sun.) Despite embracing pseudo-ideological labels like “Christian Ecofascist Accelerationist,” nihilists aren’t coherently political either. Nazism itself was more of an aestheticized death cult than a cogent doctrine, which is why nihilists are drawn to its vibes. According to the gooners’ manifesto, “the right wing in America is a complete and utter failure,” the “alt or dissident right” are “faggots obsessed with optics,” and leftist violence should be welcomed because “as an accelerationist I know that it takes all sides opening fire to cause that much desired societal collapse.” The point isn’t that these are original or interesting ideas. They’re not. It’s that they’re only a slightly more hopeless version of Groyperism, which aims to take over the Republican Party, and are dark-mirrored by far-left and Islamist accelerationism, which are just as contemptuous of Western society. We must peer inside the goon cave and take its dwellers seriously, because the terminally isolated may seek our corpses for company.
